The suit was officially filed with the U.S. International Trade Commission and in a U.S. District Court in Delaware. Apple announced the lawsuit in a press release. "We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We've decided to do something about it," said Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. "We [...]
$2.99... talk me out of it. This is much cooler than the "I AM T-PAIN" app.
Apple has a fairly infamous track record when it comes to the language it allows in its App Store. Words like "boobs" and "booty" are out. Now "Android" is apparently the latest in a long line of deadly words. According to one developer, Apple has requested that the name of Google's mobile operating system be removed for an app description. The [...]
They were a bit upset that all the promotional clips for the iPad showed Flash operating on the webpages. Apple has since apologized and edited the marketing pics. Luckily, Flash has been dying for months.
Yesterday, technology juggernaut Apple withdrew its membership from the United States Chamber of Commerce. They aren't the first, and they won't be the last. Why are we seeing an exodus from the Chamber? In Apple's words... "As a company, we are working hard to reduce our own greenhouse gas emissions by relying on renewable energy at our [...]
Starting today, Mac OSX Snow Leopard is available for shipping at Amazon.com. Current Mac OS 10.5 Leopard users are eligible to upgrade to Snow Leopard at the very low price of $25 (and free shipping). Even though Apple suggests Mac users without Leopard buy the $149 Mac box set to get Snow Leopard, anyone can purchase the $25 Snow Leopard disc [...]
Earlier this month, Apple rejected an application for the iPhone called Google Voice. The uproar set off a chain of events—Google's CEO Eric Schmidt resigning from Apple's board, and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) investigating wireless open access and handset exclusivity—that may finally end the 135-year-old Alexander Graham Bell [...]
If you receive a text message on your iPhone any time after Thursday afternoon containing only a single square character, Charlie Miller would suggest you turn the device off. Quickly. That small cipher will likely be your only warning that someone has taken advantage of a bug that Miller and his fellow cybersecurity researcher Collin Mulliner [...]
Clearly the work of computer graphics or God himself (pick one, there are a few), who knows, but if my laptop decided to do that, I’d probably go and check with the doctor to see if I haven’t got a brain tumor eating away at my cerebral cortex.
Already, both Rapid repair and ifixit have torn down the new iPhone 3G S, and phonewreck has provided some analysis. The new CPU runs twice as fast at 600 MHz and supports 720p video. They also found that the new 3 megapixel camera took better photos. Surprisingly, despite apple’s claims that the new phone has significantly better battery life, [...]
The iPhone dev-team has released an updated version of PwnageTool. It supports jailbreaking iPhones using the 3.0 firmware. This update does not include the much easier to use QuickPwn, but it should be coming soon. The release also doesn’t include the UltraSn0w unlock which will be coming via Cydia.
Eddie, who made the Mac Logo LCD Mod, has posted a step by step tutorial on how to do it yourself. Basically, he just disassembled his MacBook, popped out the logo, put one from an iBook or Powerbook, then mounted a small LCD back there and routed it into a USB port internally. He says the extra electronics cause a tiny bulge in the monitor [...]
Apple's iTunes plans to boost the price of many hit singles and selected classic tracks to $1.29 on April 7, breaking the psychological barrier of 99 cents in what could be the first big test of how much consumers are willing to pay to download individual songs. Although the price-hike date hasn't been publicly announced, Apple has been [...]
Maybe I'm a pathetic Seinfeld fanboy, but it occurred to me this week that each smartphone handset maker is exactly like a restaurant in the popular '90s TV series. Research In Motion, or RIM, which makes the BlackBerry line of phones, is like Seinfeld's neighborhood coffee shop. RIM phones simply work. Nothing fancy, but they're very popular, [...]
We just got the announcement, iPhone OS 3.0 is coming. Set your clocks, mark your calendars. It's going down March 17th. Apparently, we'll get a sneak peak at the new OS, as well as a look at a brand new version of the SDK. Exciting stuff indeed, and we'll be there live at 10am PST (1pm EST) with the liveblog. Apple's calling this an "advance [...]
$200 iTunes Gift Certificates are selling for less than $3 in China now that a group of local hackers has circumvented Apple's algorithm for creating the digital vouchers and built their own gift certificate generators. According to Outdustry, a website which describes itself as a music industry consultancy specializing in the Chinese music [...]
Apple's iTunes App Store, the only Apple-approved source for iPhone applications, is getting some competition. Jay Freeman, the developer behind the Cydia app that allows software not approved by Apple to be installed on the iPhone, has launched the Cydia Store, an unauthorized alternative online market for iPhone applications. According to [...]
